Solicitation Meetings Scheduled For First Tuesday Of Every Month!

Lodge Presidents in District 7, or their designee, are invited to attend the solicitation meetings the first Tuesday of every month. We will discuss our progress and future efforts. Please make it a point to be there or send one of your lodge members!

POLITICAL SCREENING OF CANDIDATES FOR DISTRICT 7

With our FOP State Lodge Legislative Liaison Lisa Henning will be held on Thursday & Friday 9am, July 12 & 13, 2012 @ OPD Lodge 25; 5505 S. Hansel Ave, Orlando, Florida 32809. Invite Candidates that are seeking an endorsement from the FOP District 7.
*Before your Lodge endorses a Candidate, it must be approved by the FOP District 7 Legislative Committee!

10TH ANNUAL GREATER OVIEDO 5K, MAY 26th, IN HONOR OF MICHAEL CALLIN

Here is the flyer for a 5K run which will be held on May 26 at the First Baptist Church of Oviedo in honor of Michael Callin. The proceeds for this event will go to the Michael Callin Memorial Scholarship Fund which is a 501C3 organization established to provide scholarships to qualified recruits at the Criminal Justice Institute at Valencia College and also to a graduating senior at Oviedo High School, both where Michael graduated.
This 5K race will have a number of law enforcement and fire personnel participating in what is titled" Battle of the Badges." All of the proceeds will go to training other law enforcement officers and Michael continues to serve through the example of service his life displayed. It a win win for the community!

At the event, we will have helicopters from Orange and Seminole Counties for attendees to "get a close up view" and speak with the pilots. The Orange County Sheriff's Office helicopter has Michael's name on the rudder and was dedicated by Craig Floyd (President-National Law Enforcement Memorial) several years ago and is the only one of its kind. As well we will have other displays which includes a "Memorial Law Enforcement Vehicle" honoring the fallen deputies of this area. Michael's duty motorcycle which will display a memorial windshield will also be there for the attendees to review. We will also have a very "special" tribute which honors those who have served or are serving our community as we celebrate this Memorial Day weekend. It will be an incredible event.

FLORIDA STATE LODGE JOINS LAWSUIT AGAINST GOVERNOR SCOTT!

Brothers and Sisters,

Since the conclusion of the 2011 Legislative Session, we have continued to work with our labor coalition partners. In a move to halt the implementation of Senate Bill 2100 and stop the confiscation of 3% of our FRS members pay, the Florida State Lodge has joined with the Teachers union and other state workers in filling a law suit/injunction against Governor Scott in Leon County today.

Through attorney Ron Meyer of Meyer and Brooks, working with our FOP General Counsel Tony Livoti, two FOP members are named as plaintiffs in the original law suit. Our members, Lori Goodwin and Adam Teichner of Santa Rosa FOP Lodge 123 stood up for all law enforcement in the Florida Retirement System who are now being forced to submit to a 3% pay cut in order for the state to balance their bloated budget. We will fight against this unconstitutional and unfair tax on our members. Even as news this week comes out that the Florida Retirement System is in even better health than the legislators reported, our FRS members and state workers are forced to shoulder a burden they do not deserve.

Update 4/09/10 - The City of Melbourne has stripped its police Chief Donald Carey of his duties. Steve Mimbs, a veteran command officer of the Melbourne Police Department, has been named as acting police chief.
